Monday, November 2, 2015 : 2:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Cynthia Stone, DrPH, MSN, BSN, Richard M. Fairbanks School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management, Indiana University, Indianapolis, IN
The PHN Section has experienced very active and dedicated Governing Councilors over the years. Information about the responsibilities of Governing Councilors will be shared in this session. The work of the Governing Councilors starts prior to the Annual meeting but is intensive during the Annual Meeting. The Governing Councilors work closely with the PHN Section Policy Committee to write and review new policies, as well as review policies being considered for archiving. At the Annual meeting each new policy will have a hearing for any proposed changes before the actual voting. The Governing Council is also responsible for voting for the APHA by-laws, for the offices of President Elect, the Treasurer and Executive Board Members of APHA. To learn about the candidates for various offices candidate forums are held and materials are sent out ahead of the meeting. The theme of each Annual Meeting is also voted on by the Governing Council. PHN Section input about policies, candidates and other items are gathered during the PHN Section business meetings. Any APHA member can attend the Governing Council sessions, and proxies are often needed. If you are interested in exploring this PHN Section Governing Councilor role being a proxy is a good place to begin.
