A High-Tech, High-Touch Approach to Service Delivery to Rural Veterans

Monday, November 2, 2015 : 2:30 p.m. - 2:50 p.m.

Jennifer Roseman, BSW, MA, CPSSS, VetAdvisor, Ebensburg, PA
VetAdvisor provides proactive preventative care to military veterans and service members, supporting them throughout their journey by managing behavioral health, wellness, financial, and employment concerns. We work with veterans using an interactive platform that incorporates personalized goal setting and high-tech biometric and social feedback, coupled with real time high-touch personalized coaching.  This session will focus on the ways technological tools can lead to effective outreach to rural veterans, a population that has traditionally been underserved by both VA and public health services.

The VetAdvisor platform is proactive, veteran-centric, evidence-based, and private and secure. High-tech, high-touch coaching is the heart of our process and the basis from which technological solutions flow. Coaches interact with veterans through phone, chat, text, email, or our virtual world. Working together, specific challenges related to the veteran reintegration lifecycle are identified, and the coach and veteran collaboratively create goals and set timelines to address and overcome these concerns. Coaches utilize goal setting by identifying obstacles and assist veterans in strengthening personal support systems by using “Navigational Advocacy,” the process of building the veteran’s tool kit by connecting them with community and VA resources. The veteran/coach relationship is tracked through our Veteran Relationship Management tool (VRM).

This session will focus on our use of technologies in delivering coaching services to rural Veteran populations and the ways those technologies interact with the VRM. By the end of the session, participants will be able to understand the following: the role of high-tech, high-touch coaching in health and wellness service delivery for rural veterans; the role of technology in effective and efficient veteran case management for rural communities; and the ways a holistic approach to reintegration coupled with community partnerships in a rural county can efficiently deliver reintegration services to disparate veteran populations.
