Preparation for a systematic review: Part II

This presentation is split into two parts to accommodate the morning break. In this section of the learning institute, participants will define the initial steps for preparing to conduct a systematic review. The first step in preparation is searching for existing systematic reviews on the topic to identify gaps in knowledge and determine if the topic is eligible for a systematic review. Once it has been determined that the topic is eligible, participants will then learn how to design a systematic review protocol, complete with formulating an answerable question and defining inclusion and exclusion criteria. And finally, once the protocol has been established, participants will identify the steps and resources necessary protocol registration and explain the reasoning behind registering.

I have co-taught a systematic review class for over 5 years as well as participated in over 200 systematic reviews for publication and for the completion of theses or dissertations. I have developed a method for tracking search results, screening citations, and creating PRISMA flowcharts efficiently.
