Recruitment of Community Health Worker Program Staff

This presentation will focus on identifying and discussing skills and characteristics of program managers and community health workers that are key to successful CHW program implementation and management.  Drawing on 30 years of experience implementing and supporting CHW programs, MHP Salud staff will guide participants through interactive and small group exercises covering proper program recruitment, staffing, and managerial and CHW workload (FTE).  During the session participants will analyze and discuss existing job descriptions and interview methodologies.  Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of the importance of culturally competent staff as well as concrete tools for implementation in their own work.

This presentation is aligned with the overall objective of this learning institute which is to assist Community Health Worker (CHW) program managers enhance their leadership skills by demonstrating and analyzing the tools and resources needed to appropriately support CHWs.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I hold my MPH degree from Tulane University. I have six years experience implementing and managing CHW programs domestically and internationally. I have supported CHW programs in Nicaragua and Belize and have manged CHW programs and provided training and technical assistance in the United States with MHP Salud since 2012. I have been a member of APHA since 2009, am active on several State/National CHW working groups, and a member of the CHW Section.
