Cross-sectional Analysis of Gender Equity Consciousness at a University Level

Background: Knowledge of young people’s perceptions and definitions of gender equity in efforts to promote gender equity in society’s future leaders and policy makers. 

Purpose: To assess gender equity consciousness among university students, and to assess the influence of gender, ethnicity, course of study, educational program level, travel outside of the United States, living outside of the United States, and source of gender equity information on gender equity consciousness.  The secondary objective was to assess whether students perceive an impact in their lives as a result of potential gender inequalities in the University and in the workplace.   

Methods: A questionnaire survey 200 students from selected colleges at a university in southwestern United States.

Results: Data collection is currently ongoing. Analyses and conclusions will be drawn upon the completion of the survey at the end of May 2015.   

Discussion/Conclusion: To further explain the way gender equity is perceived at a University level, longitudinal studies that include informative interviews, projects, and surveys are necessary.
