Background

Recently many workers from the developed countries reside in the developing counties for a long period on business. The sanitary condition between them is very different and health control (especially infection control) are important.

Objectives

The researches of the health control for workers from the viewpoint of the companies have been done. But there are little researches from the viewpoint of the workers. We survey the workers who have the experience of stay in the developing countries and propose the more effective method for health control.

Methods

We surveyed 200 workers who have the experience of stay in the developing countries over 3 months in the past 5 years. The main survey items are company profiles, duration of the stay, vaccinations, infection education, medical assistance and satisfaction with infection control of their own companies.

Results

182 men and 18 women answered. Half of them were engaged in the manufacturing industry. 35.5% stayed within 6 months, 19.0% stayed 6 months to 1 year and 20% stayed 1 to 2 years. 73% were recommended to receive vaccination before residence. The major recommended vaccinations were hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus and rabies. There was a significant relationship between the firm size and recommendation of the vaccinations. The satisfaction for infection control of their own firms had significant relationships with education before residence overseas, local medical information and assistant service.

Conclusions

It is important to give workers infection education and local medical information before staying in the developing countries.
