Parks and green space contribute significantly to healthy, sustainable, and equitable places. The benefits of these spaces are numerous: physical activity, mental health, and social cohesion to name a few. Increasing access to parks is important for any healthy places approach. This presentation will discuss what Chicago is doing to increase park access and the role parks play in promoting healthy places.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: I have been a park planner and administrator for various agencies for more than 30 years. One of my key focuses has been the impact of parks on larger community issues, including public health. In my work with the American Planning Association, I worked on various planning and public health initiatives, including co-authoring a mayoral briefing paper titled “How Cities Use Parks to Improve Public Health.”
