Challenges of health care in the Syrian conflict

The Syrian conflict is the worst humanitarian catastrophe of our time, with more than 200,000 people killed and 1.5 million injured.  Many millions have been displaced.  In the course of the conflict, health professionals and health facilities have been targeted, making humanitarian health assistance extremely challenging and dangerous.  At the same time, health professionals working within Syria have work under dire conditions, with inadequate supplies, medication and staff, and are always in danger from attack.  This presentation will describe the experience of providing health care in Syria, and the ways in which the Syrian American Medical Society seeks to meet medical neeeds of peole in Syria.
