Tuesday, November 3, 2015 : 3:10 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Ana Consuelo Matiella, The Fotonovela Production Company, Santa Fe, NM
An interactive digital health fotonovela  is an iteration of the traditional health fotonovela, an engaging and educational interactive story told with pictures and dialogue designed to be used on-line. The Fotonovela Production Company received Small Business Innovative Research funds from CDC to develop and test a bilingual prototype to address the disproportionate incidence of human papilloma virus and cervical cancer among Latinas in the U.S. Our company tested the  digital health fotonovela prototype in pre-/post-tests surveys with 84 Spanish and English Speaking Latinas, ages 18-26, in 10 focus groups in Los Angeles County.  We also conducted an online survey with 41 Latino-serving health professionals. Latina respondents, ages 18-26, demonstrated HPV and cervical cancer knowledge gain, attitude change and intent to change behavior. Health professional respondents surveyed agreed that the bilingual digital health fotonovela on HPV was informative and entertaining and offered several suggestions on how to improve it. This preliminary digital health fotonovela study indicated that this format would be well-received by, and motivational to, Latinas 18-26 as well as to the health professionals who serve them.
