The social and behavioral sciences in public health address the behavioral, social and cultural factors related to individual and population health and health disparities over the life course. Research and practice in this area contributes to the development, administration and evaluation of programs and policies in public health and health services to promote and sustain healthy environments and healthy lives for individuals and populations. My presentation will review the content of the CPH exam related to behavioral and social sciences. It will also provide study tips and other resources for CPH candidates.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: My work has focused on surveillance of tobacco use and dependence among youth and adults in the United States. More recently I have facilitated the development of the Global Tobacco Surveillance System, with particular focus on the Global Adult Tobacco Survey and more recently on the Global Youth Tobacco Survey. I am also developing community-based projects on the use of lifestyle factors such as exercise and nutrition to facilitate smoking cessation.
