Discussion: APHA, Public Health ,and Chicago then and now

Provide lead off discussion on the setting of public health in Chicago with the emphasis on the present setting, and current status viewed against the long history of challenges to public health both community wise and nationally. The papers at this session set the context and this discussion will follow emphasizing the themes, prior leadership, the quest for equity and a personal view of where we are, and the future directions.

Learning Objectives:
Identify the needed background to discuss the array of challenges. Identify how issues arise, and what are the array of issues such as larger factors for example the search for equity, while others are more focused such as workplace health. Describe enduring problems and what are emerging challenges with suggestion of needed action and public health.
