A ‘Climate and Health Profile’ is a critically important first step for states and cities in projecting their climate and health disease burden (BRACE Step 2). The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) completed a year-long process by June, 2015 to develop its initial Climate and Health Profile. Chapters include a description of the changing NYS climate, a summary of climate-related health impacts, a description of vulnerable populations, methods for assessing vulnerability, challenges and opportunities, and existing NYS initiatives and collaborations. The Profile concludes with the NYSDOH Climate and Health Strategic Map and its implementation. Next steps will include use of the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) system for sharing the Profile, shorter summaries for critical partners such as local health departments, and specific vulnerabilities in local areas.
