Business Meeting
Please join the Environment Section as we remember and honor Rebecca A. Head, longtime APHA member and Section leader. Rebecca passed away surrounded by family and friends on June 23, 2015, at her home in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Rebecca contributed to public health in a myriad of ways, bringing unflagging and positive energy to her colleagues and to the field. She was a leader in the Section for over 25 years, served twice as Section Chair, and was awarded the Section’s Distinguished Service Award. She was a vital link between the Section’s past and future – articulating the Section’s historical roots while embracing and mentoring emerging leaders in the environmental health field. She was a member of APHA’s Science Board and served as its Vice-Chair. She was a member of the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Environmental Health/Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry and the Environmental Health Advisory Committee of the National Association of County and City Health Officials. She had a strong commitment to environmental health education and served on the Health and Environment Advisory Board of the National Environmental Education Foundation. Rebecca also was a local public health leader, holding multiple positions, including directing the environmental health programs in Washtenaw County and holding the position of Health Officer/Director of the Monroe County Health Department from 2005 - 2011. Rebecca held a PhD in toxicology from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
Please join us for an informal gathering as we remember and honor Rebecca - our friend, colleague, and mentor.
