Violence Prevention Committee Oral Session
Tuesday, November 3, 2015: 2:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This session will address gaps in the literature, such as the course of violence over time, versus studies that address the topic in a cross sectional manner. The session will also cover data analysis of experiences of violence from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health, which followed adolescents into adulthood. Other topics to be covered include: gender differences in violence patterns, cultural experiences of community violence, and racial disparities in death resulting from violence.
Session Objectives: 1. Identify the course of violence over time.
2. Describe the impact and risks associated with violence across genders and age.
3. Discuss disparities in factors that affect coping as well as an increase in risk of violence within a cultural context.
