Philanthropy's Role in Measuring Progress Toward Health Improvement Goals

Monday, November 2, 2015: 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Oral
The American Public Health Association’s (AHPA) goal to make the U.S. the healthiest nation in one generation requires data and measurement. Public and private organizations collect health data at the national, state and regional level. Public health has many gaps in the data available to achieve their practice change and policy goals. Money, political pressure, time, and expertise all contribute to this gap. This makes it hard for organizations from the local to the national level to respond to emerging trends in population health. This session will discuss philanthropy’s current and potential role in gathering higher quality and more timely health data. Those attending the session will gain a deeper understanding of the role that local, state, and national philanthropic organizations can play in providing needed health information for policy, planning and evaluation purposes.
