Dr. Linda Rae Murray has devoted her career to serving the medically under-served. At the outset of her career she practiced occupational medicine at a Workers Clinic in Canada, was residency program director in Occupational Medicine at Meharry Medical College and became Bureau Chief for the Chicago Department of Health under Mayor Harold Washington. Subsequently, she was Medical Director of a Chicago FQHC after which she became Chief Medical Officer of the Cook County Community Health Network and then Chief Medical Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health. She was a member of NIOSH’s Board of Scientific Counselors, on NACCHO’s (National Association of City & County Health Officers) Health Equity and Social Justice Team and President of APHA in 2011.
