CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — APHA 2016 Annual Meeting & Expo

Caucus on Homelessness

Meeting theme: Creating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 4, 2016

The Caucus invites abstracts on research, epidemiology, policy, legislation, advocacy, and service delivery issues pertaining to health and homeless populations. The theme of the 2016 meeting is: Creating the Healthiest Nation: Ensuring the Right to Health. As you can imagine, the Caucus on Homelessness was highly supportive of this choice of theme and we are looking forward to highlighting this framework in the context of the vulnerable and marginalized groups we work with, in, and for, as they bear an undue proportion of health issues. Topics of interest for this year's program include, but are not limited to:
  • Design and evaluation of health interventions for specific populations (e.g. homeless youth, veterans, LGBTI, etc.)
  • Evidence based practices for services targeted to individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Housing as a human right: design and evaluation of effective housing interventions
  • Issues related to health policy and the right to healthcare for individuals experiencing homelessness
  • Novel methods or challenges in conducting research with individuals experiencing homelessness
Abstracts are reviewed anonymously and rated based on the following criteria:
  • Quality and description of subject matter
  • Innovative/Original nature of topic
  • Sophistication/rigor of methodology or program approach used
  • Results, conclusions, or program outcomes adequately discussed and based on sufficient data
  • Importance/Relevance of topic to the field
IMPORTANT! You do not need to be an APHA member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author MUST become an APHA Individual member and you MUST register for the Annual Meeting by the September pre-registration deadline. (APHA LI faculty excluded). Submission of an abstract implies a commitment to make the presentation at the annual meeting, therefore please make sure you understand what is required of you before submitting.

Abstracts with student researchers as senior authors are encouraged. The Caucus on Homelessness will present an award for the best student abstract submitted. The abstract will be selected by a committee. Please notify the program committee in the comments section if you are submitting a student abstract, so that it can be considered for this award. For additional information contact the program chair.
