APHA 2016 Annual Meeting & Expo (Oct. 29 - Nov. 2, 2016)

The strength of a public health system rests on its capacity to effectively deliver the ten Essential Public Health Services. The adoption of telehealth technologies into mainstream public health practice has the potential for significantly advancing the effective delivery of the “Ten Essential Public Health Services”. However, the adoption of telehealth and the diffusion of innovative technology into public health practice have been slow. During this session, participants will learn how telehealth can be used as a tool for delivering the ten Essential Public Health Services. Participants will learn more specifically about how telehealth has been used to create more effective systems of emergency/disaster preparedness and response; improve the management of chronic diseases; mitigate the impacts of provider shortages on access to care; increase the capacity of providers to deliver more timely care and health education; enhance the capacity of the public health workforce through training and education; and decrease disability/facilitate greater independence in the aging population.
