27th Annual PHEHP Public Health Materials Contest
The PHEHP Materials Contest Committee is soliciting your best health education, promotion and communication materials for the 27th annual competition. The contest provides a forum to showcase public health materials during the APHA Annual Meeting and recognizes professionals for their hard work.
All winners will be selected by panels of expert judges prior to the 145th APHA Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA. A session will be held at the Annual Meeting to recognize winners, during which one representative from the top materials selected in each category will give a presentation about their material.
Entries for the contest are due by 11:59 pm (Pacific) on March 10, 2017and will be accepted in the following categories:
Print Materials (only electronic or scanned versions accepted): Materials created for the public/patient population to promote a health related message or program. Materials submitted to this category cannot exceed five pages in length and must be in PDF. Examples include brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, and photo novelas.
Multi-media Materials: Materials created for the public/patient population to promote a health related message or program. Examples include PSAs, health campaigns, online resources, videos, and video/ web games.
Training Materials: Materials created for the public, healthcare providers, and/or health educators to assist them in leading discussions on a health related topic or procedure. The material can be in print, CD-ROM, or website format. Examples include lesson plans, training modules, or multi-media health education toolkits. CONTEST RULES:
Multiple authors/submitters per material are acceptable, but the lead author must be a member of APHA.For APHA membership information, visit http://www.apha.org/become-a-member.
The material must have been implemented and/or distributed since last year’s contest deadline- April 15th, 2016.
Only one entry for each group of authors per category. That is, the same group of authors cannot make multiple submissions in the same category by rearranging the order of authors.
One representative of each winning material must attend the Annual Meeting in Atlanta, GA to give an oral presentation on their material in a special session on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm. Failure to meet this requirement will disqualify the material and the authors from the contest this year and for three subsequent years.
Authors for the winning material will be required to provide information necessary to complete the CE application for the session.
English translations for materials in languages other than English must be provided along with the original material.
All materials must have undergone appropriate evaluation (formative and/or summative) and the results must be included.
A panel of judges for each category will select the winners. Winners will be notified by June 2017.

Contestants must submit materials contest items by email. All contestants must submit an abstract online. Materials are due by 11:59 pm (Pacific) on March 10, 2017 , no exceptions.

1. MATERIAL SUBMISSION
Type the lead author’s name followed by the category you are submitting your material to in the subject line (Print, Multimedia, Training). Attach the following items to the email: the completed contest entry form (pg. 3); the two-page material description (instructions on pg. 4); a copy of your material as a PDF, Word document, or picture/video file (website entries should simply include the URL in the body of the email); English translation if necessary.
Within 24 hours of submission, you will receive an email to confirm receipt.
