Online Abstract Submission

APHA's 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo
Philadelphia PA | Nov. 02 — Nov. 06

The American Public Health Association is now accepting abstracts for APHA's 2019 Annual Meeting and Expo.
The theme of the meeting is Creating the Healthiest Nation: For science. For action. For health. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on the theme and current and emerging public health issues.

Submission Deadline — Abstracts are due February 19-23. See the list of groups below for specific deadlines.

Abstract Notification — Presenters will be notified via email of abstract status on Monday, June 3, 2019.

Rules and Regulations

  • You do not have to be a member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author MUST become an individual APHA member and MUST register for the Annual Meeting by the pre-registration deadline (membership does not apply to faculty of APHA Learning Institutes or speakers of invited sessions).
  • Abstracts submitted and accepted for the APHA Annual Meeting may not be presented at any other meeting or published prior to Saturday, November 2, 2019.
  • Presenters who fail to show up for their scheduled presentations without notifying the program planner of cancellation will not be permitted to present papers or posters at any APHA-Sponsored meeting for two years following the "no-show."
  • An author may not present more than three abstracts during an APHA Annual Meeting, and each abstract must be different. Violators will be removed from the program.
  • It is the policy of the American Public Health Association to hold events (meetings, conferences and professional gatherings) where physical and communication barriers do not exclude people with disabilities from attending and participating. Presentations must be accessible to all including closed captioning of videos.
  • Presenters whose abstracts were accepted for presentation but subsequently withdrawn two or more times within the last five years may not be considered for inclusion in the program.

Abstract Requirements/Instructions

If any of the below requirements are not met by submission deadline, your abstract will be removed
  1. Scroll below to select a component/group to submit your abstract.
  2. Please read and follow the instructions provided by the specific component.
  3. Learning outcomes must be described and be from the learner's perspective. Please use one of the examples of measurable action words provided on the submission form. Learning outcomes should not be included in the abstract text word count.

    Guidelines for Writing Learning Outcomes

The following guidelines are provided to assist in the development of appropriate learning outcomes:

Understanding Abstract Submission Process

Abstract ID and Password

  • When you submit an abstract, an e-mail message will be sent to you with your abstract ID and password.
  • Your ID and password will also be displayed on the screen during the submission process. Be sure to keep a record of these numbers.
  • You may share your abstract ID number and password with colleagues allowing them to work on the abstract.

Once you begin your abstract you may interrupt the submission process at any time, and you can resume later.

  • You can submit part of your abstract and return several hours or even days later to resume or alter a submission.
  • To log back into your submission use the URL in one of the automatic confirmation emails that you received while submitting various steps.

While you are submitting an abstract, a program organizer or staff person can see your work to provide assistance if you encounter a problem or have questions. No one else will have access to your presentation.

Instructions for submitting an abstract

  • Select a topic from the call for papers of your Section/SPIG/Caucus/Forum.

Step 2 - Title

  • Tell us your preferred method of presentation. Session organizers will do their best to match your preferred presentation format but it cannot be guaranteed.
  • Learning objectives must be described and be from the learner's perspective. Please use one of the examples of measurable action words provided on the submission form. Learning objectives should not be included in the abstract text word count.

Continuing Education Requirements

As an organization committed to providing quality continuing education (CE) activities to its membership and meeting registrants, APHA must adhere to the requirements of various accrediting bodies and professional organizations with which it collaborates. APHA has made CE credits/contact hours available in a variety of professional disciplines. Each discipline has its own unique requirements of educational activities, and of the organizations that provide them. Because APHA strives to make as many of its educational activities as possible eligible for CE, it is essential that the presenters (authors, faculty, etc) meet all CE requirements and follow discipline-specific regulations.
