Established in 1982, The Metropolitan Washington Public Health Association (MWPHA) has experienced many highs and lows. In 2016, the organization held frequent events in addition to an annual meeting which drew in 256 members; however, in subsequent years, events declined and so did membership. In February, the organization seated a new governing council to engage current members and recruit new members from the 10,000 public health professionals in the DC area. Prior to addressing the decline in membership, the governing council was tasked with re-obtaining active status with the City of DC and the IRS. This poster describes the challenges MWPHA has faced in reestablishing compliance, strategies for overcoming those challenges, and best practices for remaining compliant. This poster also describes next steps the organization is taking to engage members.
