The Health Administration section is also the right place for you if you value nurturing, supporting, training and exchanging information with public health practitioners, academic public health programs, and healthcare administrators of all disciplines, while publicly advocating for public health based on sound administrative and scientific principles.
We encourage submissions that focus on best practices, promising models for the future, and instructive lessons learned for improvement, sustainability, and equitable distribution of healthcare services. Such submissions reflect the practice of implementation science, which is the study of the process of implementing evidence-based programs and practices. Implementation science allows for research to be implemented successfully in practice among a variety of settings.
Student-centered work, which includes an award for an Outstanding Student Submission, is highly encouraged. We are pleased to collaborate again this year with the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice for our Research to Practice Award. This award welcomes best examples of current research that has effectively been put into the practice of health administration and management. We encourage submissions that demonstrate translation of research findings to inform decision making and action by public health practice and policy stakeholders. Submissions should also address the development of new, innovative dissemination strategies for translating research into practice, and/or demonstrated achievement of research findings being utilized beyond peer reviewed manuscripts. Submitting abstract authors may indicate their interest in applying or nominating another author for the award. The selected awardee will be invited by the Journal of Public Health Management and Practice to submit their work as an invited article in an upcoming issue and will be recognized at the Section Awards Reception.
The topic areas below represent broad categories of interest that garner significant numbers of abstracts relevant to the business interests of the section. As abstracts are selected, topic areas will be narrowed to create sessions where like abstract content will be assigned.

General Instructions for Abstract Submissions
Abstracts submitted for consideration should reflect new information. Abstracts are limited to 300 words or less and must include at least two measurable objectives. Guidelines for writing learning objectives can be found in the Continuing Education Credit section below. Abstracts should adequately describe the content and focus of the proposed presentation and follow the general outline of background, methods, results, and conclusions. All abstracts are reviewed using a blind peer-review process. Incomplete abstracts or those failing to meet guidelines established by APHA will not be reviewed.
NOTE: Submission of an abstract implies a commitment to make the presentation at the Annual Meeting. Presenters of accepted abstracts must be, or become, members of APHA and must be registered according to the information that will be provided to those with accepted abstracts.
Session Proposal Abstract Submission Procedures
If you would like to propose a “complete” session, consisting of four to five abstracts organized on a specific topic, please note the following information:
Continuing Education Credit
APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators, health administrators, and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to maintain licenses and/or credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter, panelist, discussant, and/or faculty must provide:
1) an abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names.
2) at least two MEASURABLE objectives (“to understand” or “to learn” are not measurable objectives and compound objectives are not acceptable). Use ONLY the following Measurable Action Verbs: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.
3) A signed Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form with a relevant /acceptable qualification statement;
Example of Acceptable Biographical Qualification Statement: (I have been the principal or co-principal investigator of multiple federally funded grants focusing on the epidemiology of drug abuse, HIV prevention and co-occurring mental and drug use disorders. Among my scientific interests has been the development of strategies for preventing HIV and STDs in out-of-treatment drug users.)
Please note that stating “I am a Principal Investigator/Project Coordinator of this project.” is not sufficient since it only gives submitter's job title or position. Please be sure to include the relevant information about your experience and/or background.
4) All continuing education learning content must be of sound science or professional practice and serve to maintain, develop, or increase the knowledge, skills and professional competence of the health professional. Learning content should be evidence-based if available. A list of over 30 areas will be provided online for you to choose from. You will be asked to choose at least one or up to 6 areas that your presentation will address.
