MEN’S HEALTH CAUCUS

The Men's Health Caucus of APHA invites abstracts describing original research, innovative programs, and policy solutions related to the health of men and boys. We encourage abstracts that address the APHA 2023 Annual Meeting theme: “Creating the Healthiest Nation: Overcoming Social and Ethical Challenges.” The following is a list of priority topics for the Men’s Health Caucus:

  • American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Male Health
  • Bolstering Social and Community Resilience through Health Programs for Men
  • COVID-19 Impact on the Health of Men and Boys
  • Cancer in Men's Health
  • Drug Abuse and Addiction Issues for Boys and Men
  • Engaging Men in the Healthcare System: A Proactive Approach
  • Lessons Learned in Engaging Men, Boys, and Their Families through Community Programming
  • Male Violence and Incarceration: A Health Imperative
  • Media Portrayal of Men and Boys and Its Impact on Male Health
  • Men As Part of the Community (a holistic view of men's value in social structures)
  • Mental Health and Policing: Black Men’s Experience of Terror
  • Policies and Legislative Actions to Improve Male Health
  • Programs and Strategies to Advance Health Equity for Men and Boys
  • Role Models for Healthy Behaviors
  • Successful Men’s Health Programs: Evidence-Based Interventions
  • Other Topics

Abstracts are limited to 250 words or less.  Referral to web pages or URLs may not be used for abstracts. An author may not submit the same abstract to more than one Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum.

Preferences for oral versus poster presentation will be considered, but the program committee will consider all abstracts for both oral and poster categories. Oral presentations are generally 12-15 minutes in length. An additional 3-5 minutes will be available for discussion and questions from the audience. Presenters at poster sessions should display their work and be available to answer questions throughout the scheduled 60-minute poster session.

Individual presentations that are a part of a proposed pre-arranged panel must be submitted through the standard abstract submission process by the specified deadline. These abstracts will undergo peer review. Submission of a pre-arranged panel does not guarantee that all individual abstracts will be accepted.
