Caucus Overview

The Veterans' Caucus (previously named the Vietnam Caucus, Est. 1990) was established to focus on the continued health effects of the Vietnam war and its impact on veterans and their families. The Caucus also works with APHA to help shape public policy in support of research and health care for veterans.

Abstract Submission

The Veterans Caucus invites abstracts that advance these objectives and encompass our mission. We are particularly interested in abstracts that advance the understanding of the continued health effects including but not limited to the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, the Iraq War and other Conflicts since 2010; and the impact on the veterans and their families.

  • Access to Care Barriers in Relation to Social and Ethical Challenges
  • Emerging Threats to Community and Individual Health of Veterans and Their Respective Families, Active-Duty Military and Civilians Affected By War
  • Examining Community-Based Approaches to Addressing Trauma, Mental Health, and Violence Prevention for Veterans, Active-Duty Military and Civilians Affected By War
  • Improving Equity in Health Care Delivery to Veterans, Active-Duty Military and Civilians Affected By War
  • Novel Methods for Treatment and Resolution of Health Issues Particular to Veterans, Active-Duty Military and Civilians Affected By War
  • Other Issues and Ensuing Programs or Proposals That Help Support and Shape Public Policy As Well As Research on Veteran Health Care and the Health Care of Active-Duty Military and Civilians Affected By War

Continuing Education Credit

APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators, veterinarians, and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an
abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials. For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:

 

  • An abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names
  • At least one MEASURABLE outcome (DO NOT USE “To understand” or “To learn” as objectives, they are not measurable). Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words: Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.
  • A signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement. See an example of an acceptable Qualification Statement on the online Disclosure form.
