APHA Committee of Health Equity

Meeting theme: "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science"

The Committee of Health Equity (CHEQ) of the American Public Health Association invites the submission of abstracts for presentation at the 2024 Annual Meeting in Minneapolis, MN. This session is specifically designed to showcase the work of public health professionals who belong to underrepresented minority groups or who are conducting research to enhance and improve the conditions of those who identify as an underrepresented minority group. Our mission is to provide equal access to opportunities for individuals who have historically faced barriers in the scientific community We welcome abstracts proposal from academic researchers, public health practitioners, students, and community members. We are seeking submissions that address one of the following areas:

  • Creating an equitable and inclusive workplace
  • Data to enhance health equity
  • Health access for populations with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) and communication strategies for cultural competencies
  • Health equity for people with disabilities
  • Health equity in improving healthcare delivery and/or population health
  • Health policies for sexual orientation and gender identity groups
  • Integrate indigenous knowledge and practices into contemporary healthcare systems
  • Managing patient care and social needs in an equitable and inclusive manner
  • Policy changes that promote health equity
  • Rural, medically underserved, and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations
  • Structural racism and health equity
  • The impact of social determinants of health (SDoH) on health equity
  • The stigma surrounding mental health within diverse communities and its impact on help-seeking behaviors

Please note:

1. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words.

2. You do not need to be a member to submit; however, if your abstract is accepted, presenters must become a member of APHA.

3. All presenters must register for the meeting.

4. Research poster abstracts must contain the following sections: Background/introduction, methods, results, and conclusion.
