CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — APHA 2024 Annual Meeting and Expo
Genomics Forum
Meeting theme: "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science"
Submission Deadline: Sunday, March 31, 2024
APHA's Genomics Forum invites abstract submissions related to the 2024 conference theme, "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science", as well as areas of special interest to public health practitioners and researchers interested in the field of genomics. Genomics Forum information can be found at: https://www.apha.org/APHA-Communities/Forums/Genomics-Forum
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following:
Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Genomics How genetics and genomics influence ethical practices, social relationships, networks, and community health. Issues related to informed consent, return of genetic and genomic results, impacts of genetic / genomic information on families. Effects on individuals, communities and populations of existing, new, and emerging local, state, regional, and federal policies, laws, and regulatory approaches.
Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology/Gene-Environment Epidemiology Disease susceptibility, gene-gene interactions, clinical utility of results from genomic research. Also includes GWAS, novel study designs, diverse populations, gene-environment interactions, and epigenetics.
Genomics Forum Poster Session
Health Communications in Genomics Methods to communicate complex genetic or genomic information, how health care providers communicate genetic or genomic risk, and improving discussions related to family history of disease. The impact of new and emerging technologies (e.g., WGS/WES, pharmacogenomics testing) and direct-to- consumer genetic testing.
Health Disparities in Genomics Regional and geographical disparities in access to genetic services, genomic and molecular testing, and research opportunities. How genetic / genomic information is valued in diverse communities.
Research and Practice Challenges and Opportunities Research and practice opportunities, challenges, and future directions in the public health genomics field.
Other Topics and Issues Any other topics and issues in genomics which are not listed above.
Instructions:
Abstracts should be 250 words or less and cannot refer to web pages or URLs. All abstracts will be reviewed based on relevance to the conference theme and/or to the Genomics Forum, noteworthiness of problem, and quality of design, methods, and interpretation. All submissions will end at 11:59 p.m. PST on the due date listed on the Call for Abstracts Web page: https://apha.confex.com/apha/2024/cfp.cgi. No late submissions will be accepted. All abstracts must be submitted online. An easy-to-use online form will walk you through the process step by step.
You do not need to be an APHA member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author MUST become an APHA individual member and must register for the Annual Meeting by the advance registration deadline.
