For an initiative that is largely funded by Medicaid, what role can private philanthropy play? Builder’s Initiative has supported Dion’s Chicago Dream by funding an expanded packing and production facility that will help the organization meet increased demand for produce boxes through the initiative. Builder’s Initiative also realizes the importance of supporting overhead costs. Builders Initiative is the philanthropic arm of Builders Vision, an impact office that works to realize a healthier and more humane planet. Builders Vision works in three areas: food and agriculture; oceans; and energy. In Food, Builders Initiative works to increase access to and consumption of healthy food in Chicago neighborhoods that have low access to food and high rates of diet related disease. The organization works with community nonprofits, such as Dion's Chicago Dream, to make sure those Chicagoans have access to healthy food and Food is Medicine related programming. Nationally, Builders Initiative supports coalition building and advocacy for a unified Food is Medicine strategy at the state and Federal level.
