CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — APHA 2024 Annual Meeting and Expo

Public Health Nursing

Meeting theme: "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science"

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2024

The Public Health Nursing Section welcomes abstracts that encompass the role of public health nurses in normalizing population-based prevention and health promotion, with a focus on the areas listed below (authors will indicate their related topic selection at submission).  Abstracts should address innovative aspects of public health nursing research, education, practice, and/or policy as they relate to one or more of the categories listed below.  Abstracts relating to the role of public health nursing in rebuilding trust in public health and science are preferred.

  • Evidence-Based Practice for Population Health
  • Policy and Public Health Nursing
  • Public Health Nursing Research
  • Public Health Nursing and Global Health
  • Public Health Nursing and Social Determinants of Health
  • Social Challenges and Access to Care
  • Social Justice, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Strengthening the Public Health Nursing Workforce

Individual abstracts may be submitted for oral, poster, or roundtable presentation, as well as live or virtual presentation.

Abstract Format

Limit abstracts to 250 words, using one of three formats (unstructured abstracts are not accepted):

Research:

  • Background
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusions

Lessons-learned:

  • Background/ Issue
  • Description
  • Lessons Learned
  • Implications/recommendations

Narrative:

  • Statement of the problem
  • Approach
  • Product/outcome
  • Implications

Review Criteria

All abstracts will be blind-reviewed by 2-3 reviewers using the following criteria:

  1. Relevance of the issue
  2. Innovative strategies
  3. Soundness of the science
  4. Substantive nature of the work
  5. Compelling conclusions

Continuing Education Credit

APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators, veterinarians, and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials.

For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:

  • An abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names
  • At least one MEASURABLE outcomes (DO NOT USE “To understand” or “To learn” as objectives, they are not measurable). Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words:  Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.
  • A signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement. See an example of an acceptable Qualification Statement on the online Disclosure form.
