CALL FOR ABSTRACTS — APHA 2024 Annual Meeting and Expo

Socialist Caucus

Meeting theme: "Rebuilding Trust in Public Health and Science"

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 29, 2024

The Socialist Caucus of the American Public Health Association (SCAPHA) has been actively engaged in the fight for social justice and public health since 1975. We invite submissions that adopt critical left perspectives on the impact of global capitalism on public health and the struggle for health and justice in the United States and around the world.

Please note: if you are interested in presenting work and don’t see your topic above, please feel free to submit it nonetheless.

We propose that abstracts be submitted to the following sessions; proposals for complete sessions will also be considered.

  • Food system justice; women’s health; the health of LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Organizing for economic, social, political and racial justice, from the community to the global level
  • The health of marginalized populations, including the disability, immigrant, refugee, incarcerated, and unhoused communities
  • The movement for national health care, and how our pandemic response revealed systemic underlying inequities
  • The role of global capitalism and corporations in shaping health and health care

The Caucus especially encourages students and young professionals to submit proposals. When submitting a session proposal (not just a single abstract), please individually submit all abstracts to be included in the session through the web submission process and inform the program planners via e-mail that you have organized a complete session (see addresses below). The e-mail should include the name, address, phone number and e-mail address of the session organizer; the title of the session; a list of the individual abstracts to be included in the session with presenters’ names and the APHA web ID of each individual abstract. For more information, please contact one of the program planners below.
