APHA Emerging Scholars Plus
APHA’s Emerging Scholars Plus is a new opportunity for Early Career Professionals (ECPs) and student members to present their research in a pre-recorded presentation format as part of the digital component of the 2025 APHA Annual Meeting. Recorded presentations will be available on-demand starting Saturday, Nov. 1.
We are seeking abstract submissions from ECPs and students in public health or other related fields presenting results of scientific research, program evaluations, policy analysis, and lessons learned from research or practice. We also invite abstracts pertaining to public health issues in general (such as education, curricula, training, employment trends, student leadership, advocacy, etc.). This year’s meeting theme highlights making public health a national priority.
Submitters whose abstract was previously declined are encouraged to re-submit.
Topic areas include:
Any innovative program, best practice, preparedness, lessons learnt, topic or courses that can be adopted in the workforce post pandemic.
Broadly researched programs by ECPS at their worksite.
Disability.
Environmental/Occupational Health.
Epidemiology/Biostatistics.
Food and Nutrition.
Health Education.
Health Services Administration/Management.
International/Global Health.
Maternal/Child Health.
Mental Health and Treatment.
Public Health Law and Policy.
Role of AI and other latest technologies in public health – topics related to AI or latest technologies being used.
Sexual/Reproductive Health.
Social and Behavioral Sciences.
Student Training and Public Health Workforce Development.
Understanding Health Priorities and Support Strategies in Diverse Populations.
Other Public Health Topics
Word limit: 250 words
Structured abstract format:
Background: Study objectives, hypothesis, or a description of the problem.
Methods: Study design-including a description of participants, procedures, measures, and appropriate analyses.
Results: Specific results in summary form.
Conclusions: Description of the main outcome of the study.
Review Criteria:
All Abstracts are subject to masked peer review by at least three reviewers.
Please remove any references to a specific institution in the body of the abstract to permit masked review and ensure fairness.
Standardized criteria will be used to evaluate all abstract submissions. These criteria include:
adherence to specified format as indicated under structured abstract format,
importance/originality,
description of subject matter,
methodology/sound conceptual framework, and
clarity of content. The project must be completed at the time of submission.
APHA Artificial Inteligence (AI) Policy and Conflict of Interest Disclosure:
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research, data collection, analysis, or the development of presentation materials is permitted. However, to promote transparency and maintain scientific integrity, we request that all presenters who have used AI in any stage of their work disclose this at the beginning of their presentation. This disclosure should briefly describe how AI was used (e.g., data analysis, literature review, drafting content, etc.)
Note:
Abstracts already accepted and scheduled for this year’s meeting may not be withdrawn and re-submitted to the digital program. This opportunity is open to early-career professional and student members only.
You do not have to be a member to submit an abstract, however, if the abstract is accepted, membership and registration is required to have your recorded poster included in the digital meeting.
If you are already registered for the in-person or digital meeting, an additional registration fee is not required.
Incomplete abstracts will not be judged.
Late submissions will not be accepted.
Email status notification will be sent by September 23.
