Meeting theme: "Together We Thrive: Health Across the Lifespan"

Submission Deadline: Tuesday, March 31, 2026

The Vision Care Section invites presentations of original research on public health issues pertaining to vision, eye health, and eye care to promote a multi-faceted program. Submissions from all disciplines are welcome, and interdisciplinary work and student abstracts are highly encouraged. Abstracts should be no more than 250 words. All presenters must be individual members of APHA and register for the meeting to present. Abstracts cannot be presented or published in any journal prior to the APHA annual meeting.

This meeting provides an opportunity to highlight a spectrum of concerns at the intersection of public health and vision and eye health for all ages, including vision loss prevention, eye and vision education and health promotion, and eye and vision care. The following topics are intended to stimulate, rather than to limit, the scope of submissions.

  • Barriers and Facilitators to Access to Eye Care
  • Children's Vision Screening in Schools and Communities
  • Digital Eye Strain Across the Lifespan
  • Economic Burden and Cost-Effectiveness Analyses in Vision and Eye Health
  • Evidence-Based Policy and Practice in Vision Health and Eye Care
  • Fall Prevention Across the Lifespan
  • Health Equity: Ensuring Optimal Vision and Eye Health for All
  • Knowledge of Vision and Eye Health and Care in Population Subgroups: Opportunities for Education and Practice
  • Poster Session
  • Preventing Vision Loss and Promoting Eye Health Across the Lifespan
  • Social Media, Digital Communication, and/or Storytelling in Vision and Eye Health

Continuing Education Credit

APHA values the ability to provide continuing education credit to physicians, nurses, health educators, veterinarians, and those certified in public health at its annual meeting. Please complete all required information when submitting an abstract so members can claim credit for attending your session. These credits are necessary for members to keep their licenses and credentials.

For a session to be eligible for Continuing Education Credit, each presenter must provide:

  • An abstract free of trade and/or commercial product names
  • At least one MEASURABLE outcomes (DO NOT USE “To understand” or “To learn” as objectives, they are not measureable). Examples of Acceptable Measurable Action Words:  Explain, Demonstrate, Analyze, Formulate, Discuss, Compare, Differentiate, Describe, Name, Assess, Evaluate, Identify, Design, Define or List.
  • A signed Conflict of Interest (Disclosure) form with a relevant Qualification Statement. See an example of an acceptable Qualification Statement on the online Disclosure form.
