Jamila Rashid, PhD, MPH , Office of Minority Health, US Dept of Health & Human Services, Rockville, MD
Influenza vaccination rates remain low for the Adult population. During the 2010-2011 Influenza season, only 32.3% of Hispanics and 34.2% of Black or African American adults compared to 43.2% for general white population had received an Influenza vaccination. This disparity in the rate of vaccination has continued for some time despite targeted vaccine improvement efforts. To reduce this disparity, the U.S Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health established a partnership during the 2011-2012 flu season with a national pharmacy chain and State, local, faith, and community partners to launch a new collaborative effort to improve vaccination rates in these targeted groups. This presentation will describe the goals, strategies, accomplishments, challenges, and outcomes achieved through this partnership, and identify opportunities for future collaboration with similarly interested organizations.
