The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences conducts fundamental science related to the effects of the environment on health. The new NIEHS strategic plan is focused on public health and prevention, and the Institute is focused on improving health by reducing and preventing hazardous exposures.

Qualified on the content I am responsible for because: As the director of an NIH Institute and an architect of its new strategic plan, I oversee a budget that funds multidisciplinary biomedical research program, prevention, and intervention efforts that encompass training, education, technology transfer and community outreach. The NIEHS supports more than 1,000 research programs. I agree to comply with the American Public Health Association Conflict of Interest and Commercial Support Guidelines, and to disclose to the participants any off-label or experimental uses of a commercial product or service discussed in my presentation.
