The ACA stengthened the requirement for non-profit hospitals to demonstrate their commitment to community health by conducting a community health needs assessment (CHNA) along with a strategy to address the identified needs to support their non-profit tax status. This creates an outstanding potential to improve the health of the community through new partnerships that include the hospitals, experts in public health and community leaders. This session will focus on the requirements regarding the CHNA, the framework for maximizing the utility of the CHNA for the community benefit, and models for collaboration among the required partners.

Learning Areas:

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the requirements of the new CHNA for hospitals and the partners. 2. Discuss the links between hospital community benefits and public health community health assessment and health improvement planning 3. Describe models for partnering among the required stakeholders
