273004 Innovations in community prevention: Experience from North CarolinaWednesday, June 27, 2012
: 10:50 AM - 11:10 AM
The NC Division of Public Health (DPH) was awarded the Community Transformation Grants to implement policy, systems and environmental changes regarding tobacco free living, active living, healthy eating, and links to clinical prevention services addressing hypertension and cholesterol. The strategic directions will involve work with state and local partners including local health departments, AHEC, and Community Care of North Carolina (CCNC) and local community based coalitions. We will describe past successes and future plans for advancing policy, system and environmental changes such as those related to smoke-free regulations, smoke-free housing policies, implementation of comprehensive land use plans to promote active living, expanding the number of communities that have farmers' markets, and increasing the resources in community settings to decrease the cardiovascular risk factors of hypertension and high cholesterol.
