The American Public Health Association
is now accepting contributed abstracts for the 131st Annual Meeting (November 15-19, 2003), San Francisco, CA.
The theme of the meeting is: Behavior, Lifestyle, and Social Determinants of Health.
Abstracts must be limited to 250 words or less (some programs allow larger abstracts; the abstract size is usually mentioned on their Call for Papers). Please develop your abstract off-line before accessing the online submission form. Use the spell checking and word count features of your word processor to check the text of the abstract before submitting it. Two-page summaries (if required) must be less than 2000 words. Learning objectives must be described (Learning Objectives WILL NOT be included in the abstract text word count). Each contributed paper must be categorized under one of the topics or areas of interest described in the call for papers. Deadlines for submitting abstracts are listed below. Authors are encouraged to submit abstracts on current and emerging public health issues.
Abstracts can be submitted to any Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum. However, you may NOT submit the same abstract to more than one Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum.
You do not need to be an APHA member to submit an abstract. However, if your abstract is accepted for presentation, the presenting author MUST become an APHA Individual member and you MUST register for the Annual Meeting. Submission of an abstract implies a commitment to make the presentation at the annual meeting, therefore please make sure you understand what is required of you before submitting.
Please note: Withdrawing an abstract after acceptance may prevent you from submitting an abstract to future APHA Annual Meetings.
All authors will be notified via email of abstract status on Sunday, June 1, 2003. Please make sure your email address is correct.
If you know for sure that you want to submit an abstract to a particular Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum please click on the appropriate link below to see its call for abstracts. If you are unsure where your presentation would best fit in the program, CLICK HERE TO DISCOVER WHICH GROUPS ARE LOOKING FOR ABSTRACTS ON A PARTICULAR TOPIC
The abstracts being submitted should not be presented or published prior to the APHA Annual Meeting
(Wednesday, November 19, 2003).
As an organization committed to providing quality continuing education (CE) activities to its membership and meeting registrants, APHA must adhere to the requirements of various accrediting bodies and professional organizations with which it collaborates. In the past APHA has made CE units/credits/contact hours available in a variety of professional disciplines. Each discipline has its own unique requirements of educational activities, and the organizations that provide them. Because APHA strives to make as many of its educational activities as possible eligible for CE, it is essential that the presenters (authors, faculty, etc) meet all CE requirements and follow discipline-specific regulations.

E-ssentialLearning
APHA has expanded the educational experience of both presenters and attendees at the APHA Annual Meeting by investing in LCD projectors, computers and new web based technology for all scientific sessions. This new technology enables voice and PowerPoint presentations to be recorded and uploaded to the APHA web site following the meeting, thus extending the life of the meeting and providing access to hundreds of actual scientific session presentations that Annual Meeting registrants may have missed while attending other sessions.
Film & Technology Theater is an environment for live presentations of information and computer technology applications for public health and for the showing of public health films and related audiovisuals. It is a fully equipped meeting room with Internet access, LCD projection capability, and theater-quality video projection and stereo audio and available for presenters who need to show a film or whose abstracts/sessions are technology-based and technology-dependent. All abstracts of papers to be considered for presentation in the Film & Technology Theater MUST first be submitted to a Section, SPIG, Caucus or Forum for content review. Please check off the box on the submission form to indicate your presentation requires use of the Film & Technology Theater. Click on the APHA-Film & Technology Theater program title below for more information. Technology dependent presentations will be shown in the morning sessions; public health films in the afternoon.
