Prioritizing populations is one of the nine essential steps of HIV prevention community planning. Limited resources make it important to identify those groups most at risk for exposure to HIV of infection and develop comprehensive prevention plans consistent with high priority needs. This interactive skills building workshop will help participants understand the importance of having a tool for prioritizing populations most in need of prevention services.

A method of population priority setting will be presented. Strengths and limitations of this method will be discussed. Other possible resources for prioritization will be identified. Selection of factors used in the method, rationale for selecting factors, and methods used to design the tool will be given special attention.

User friendly handouts describing the priority setting method will be provided. Examples of data and how input from the community were considered will be presented. Florida CPP prevention planners who designed and implemented
