Given the conservative nature of the Egyptian society and the taboos surrounding discussion of sex, family planning consultation never included counseling in sexuality. A pioneering study attempted to test the feasibility on the part of service providers and acceptability on the part of clients to introduce counseling in sexuality. This study used intervention/control posttest only study design. Random assignment to control/ experimental study sites was made for some clinics of the Ministry of Health and the Clinical Services Improvement project. Training in Sexuality issues as related to family planning was provided to providers of the intervention sites only. The study findings showed that providing counseling in sexuality in an conservative society is both feasible and accepted. Also women receiving this type of counseling reported that it was useful.

Learning Objectives: At the end of this presentation, audience will learn: 1- Providers and FP clients could accept counseling in sexuality in an conservative society. 2- Counseling in sexuality promotes continuation of use
