Abstract #11292

Need for comprehensive services

Anne Kasper, PhD, University of Illinois at Chicago, Bethesda, MD 20816, 301-229-3839, ASKasper@aol.com

This presentation outlines why a comprehensive set of health services is fundamental to women's interests in health care reform. It will also invite a return to principles of public health and the contemporary Women's Health Movement, which call for promoting and maintaining health through widely available, low cost preventive and primary care measures rather than our current system of costly medical services. As women and others begin to organize for the next round of health reform, we must be able to argue, simultaneously, on behalf of comprehensive services and cost containment if universal health care is to be realized.

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to delineate the need for comprehensive health services for women in a universal health system

Keywords: Women's Health, Health Reform
