Sarah Johnson, MSW,, MPH, Family Planning Management Development Project, Management Sciences for Health, 891 Centre Street, Boston, MA 02130, 617 524 7766, sjohnson@msh.org

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) supports the development and sustainability of high-performing organizations by equipping them to serve the health needs of their populations. As such, performance improvement at the organizational, programmatic, process, team, and individual levels is critical. This presentation will describe MSH’s systems approach to performance improvement—where greater impact is gained by working comprehensively in many management areas as opposed to targeted, disconnected interventions—as well as provide information on methods and tools used when working with programs, organizations and individuals around the world. MSH will provide examples of performance improvement efforts undertaken in conjunction with reproductive health and family planning organizations and other USAID Cooperating Agencies to address identified performance problems.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1. Identify the performance improvement approach utilized in management and organizational development work. 2. Describe the complimentary roles that client organizations, CAs and USAID play in Performance improvement
