This study looks at the perceived physical, mental, and emotional health needs of homeless women from the women's perspective. Although a significant body of research exists regarding the health concerns of homeless individuals, few studies have examined women's needs and desires for health knowledge from their own perspective. Culturally appropriate health education materials for homeless women are also lacking. We performed a needs assessment using a questionnaire, pilot test, and focus groups to elicit information about homeless women and children's top health priorities. Using the information solicited from the women, we then designed a comprehensive women's health education curriculum that can be used at homeless shelters and clinics to improve the care of homeless women and their children in order to more adequately meet their needs.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the presentation, participants will understand some of the physical, mental, and emotional health issues that face homeless women and their children. Participants will also be able to identify methods of health education that address these health concerns and are effective and appropriate for this population
