Performance Improvement in Developing Countries: Lessons Learned

For the past 2 years, the PRIME project has been working to adapt performance improvement techniques from industry to applications in family planning and reproductive health in developing countries. The techniques have proven effective in improving the performance of organizations and primary care providers, using efficient and often low cost-interventions. During this presentation, the approach used will be briefly outlined. Examples of applications from Africa, Asia and Latin America and lessons learned while conducting these projects will also be provided.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: 1.Identify the performance improvement approach, the factors that enable desired performance and take away several rules of thumb for implementing performance improvement projects in developing countries
