This presentation describes the design and implementation of the Health DATA Program, a web-based distance learning program to improve the data skills and health knowledge of staff at the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. Issues pertaining to the development and delivery of content to adult distance learners will be addressed, including important computer and other technology issues that are easily overlooked. A list of lessons learned in developing this program and delivering continuing education and staff development remotely will be discussed. Results of an evaluation of the program will be presented, including the number of individuals who participated, the rate at which learning modules were completed, and whether the participants' knowledge and use of these skills in their jobs were enhanced. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will understand the different issues associated with development, implementation, and evaluation of a web-based distance learning program targeting health department staff, and be able to identify and describe key elements that are important for success in training this population.
