Assessment of Family Planning Discontinuation Rates in Rural Cambodia

Injectables and oral contraceptives are the most utilized birth spacing methods by Cambodian women. Unfortunately, a high proportion of acceptors early abandon use and are lost for to follow up. The authors conducted a study in Siem Reap Province. Five health centers were identified where service providers accurately followed up the continuity of their clients. Ministry of Women Affairs' village volunteers received interview training and visited the dropouts in their villages. An experienced interviewer, supervisor conducted in-dept interview in the villages within the catchment area of the five selected health centers. In total, 250 drop out clients were interviewed and among these there were 50 in-depth interviews. Results are analyzed and recommendations formulated in order to decrease the discontinuation rates.
