Richard Hermann, MD, MS, Department of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School, Cambridge Hospital, 1493 Cambridge Street, Cambridge, MA 02138, 617-503-2384, Richard_Hermann@hms.harvard.edu

Using the Schizophrenia PORT guidelines, we developed a medical record abstract to determine the level of adherence in Medicaid beneficiaries whose care was managed and compared this to Medicaid beneficiaries whose care was not managed. The study enrolled 400 adults in Massachusetts who had been evaluated for admission by a psychiatric emergency screening team. Study enrollees who were admitted to inpatient treatment had their medical records reviewed. This presentation will discuss the abstracting process and preliminary findings.

Learning Objectives: To learn how medical records are abstracted so that the information can be used to test adherence to guidelines and to report preliminary findings from Massachusetts
