While developing the CDC/ASPH Institute for HIV Prevention Leadership, 316 HIV Prevention Program Managers were assessed to determine their preferred topics for training sessions. Based on this assessment, the Institute offered sessions related to these preferred topics: evaluation, community development, assessment, using research, advocacy, and strategic management.
Prior to the start and at the completion of the Institute, the 42 scholars were asked to rate their level of competence and confidence in applying each of these topics in the area of HIV prevention programs. In addition, scholars were asked to rate their level of proficiency in using several different types of software and their level of frequency in performing certain computer tasks. The results of the scholars' pre- and post-Institute rating of competence and confidence in each topic as well as frequency of performing computer tasks will be presented. Comparisons will be made to determine if the cited preferred topics reflect the scholars' competence and confidence in these areas and if scholars' competence and confidence improved after completion of the Institute.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 1. describe the level of confidence and competence of HIV Prevention Program Managers in the area of public health prevention as applied to the area of HIV prevention programming 2. describle the level of confidence and competence of HIV Prevention Program Managers in the area of strategic management as applied to HIV prevention programming
