Irene Anne Jillson, PhD, Policy Research Inc, 5705 Norwood Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21207, 410/448-2604, ijillson@earthlink.net

The common attitude is that violence against women is perpetrated by men only. There is incidence and prevalence data to the contrary. Many women who are victims of violence are victims of other women. There is spousal abuse as well as child abuse in particular violence against daughters by mothers. There is also violence against women by women who are unknown to the victim. There is environmental violence as well as violence against refugees which is seldom recognized. Much of this violence is a part of the cycle of alcohol related violence. What is the effect of the cycle of alcohol related violence? What are the interrelationship between alcohol and violence?

Learning Objectives: After this session, participants will be able to: Identify the types of violence affecting women, especially as it relates to alcohol use. Define the inter-relationships between alcohol and violence
