The National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) is a joint initiative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NDEP is a public and private sector partnership-based program. Partners are fully engaged in all aspects of the NDEP including planning and developing the national program (planning partners), disseminating the program's messages and materials (dissemination partners) and implementing NDEP strategies (implementation partners). The NDEP encourages working with traditional and non-traditional partners especially minority organizations. This session will feature five partners and the different ways in which they have participated in the NDEP. The partners featured will include the: Kentucky Diabetes Network, Texas Diabetes Council, Wisconsin Diabetes Control Program, American Association of Indian Physicians, Lions Club, International, Alpha Gamma Delta Fraternity, and General Motors. It is the combination of strategies and partners that will make a difference in reducing the burden of diabetes through blood sugar control and the early detection of complications.

Learning Objectives: The audience will be able to describe 5 ways in which partners have implemented the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP) in communities. The audience will be able to to identify 2 ways in which they can be an NDEP partner
