Psychophysical suffering, sexuality and work: a study with bankworkers and health workers

This text is a result of a research conducted with women and men workers in banks and in the Hospital Publico de São Paulo ( São Paulo Public Hospital) with the objective of establishing a relationship between the psychophysical suffering provoked by working conditions with imbalances in the sexual and reproductive life of women and the sexual life of men. Methodology: the research, of qualitative nature, was made with professionals (women and men) of the Hospital São Paulo and with workers of both private and public banks. Three phases of data collection were developed (their answering questionnaires, the observation of activities at the workplace and taped interviews). First Considerations: it is noticed that women enter the work market earlier; Control: stricter among women bank workers; Sexual Harassment: women reported having experienced; Health and work: women and men at the banks said they had some information about RSI ( Repetitive Stress Injury) while those at the Hospital didn't; Work Organization: work organization and conditions were mentioned as bad by women and men; Sexuality: a significant number of women and men stated that work has an influence in their sex life; Maternity and Paternity Leave: men made no use of paternity leave while women did: Nursing and work: among those women who breastfed many weaned their babies earlier so as not to lose their jobs; Abortion: the women who aborted because of their jobs were those at the Hospital.
