APHA firearm injury prevention policy

This presentation will focus on existing APHA policy related to firearm injury prevention. It will begin with a review of current APHA policies which include: 7620 - Handgun Regulation; 8718 - Plastic Handguns; 9818 - Handgun Injury Reduction. The impetus for the development and evoution of these policies will be discussed. In addition, the presentation will provide information about the enivronmental factors that have contributed to the content of these policies. The utility of the existing policies in decreasing firearm injuries will also be discussed. Gaps in existing policy will be identified and options for bridging them will be presented.

Learning Objectives: 1. To describe current APHA policy related to firearm injury prevention; 2. To identify gaps in APHA firearm injury prevention policy and discuss methods for bridging them; 3. To discuss ways in which existing APHA firearm injury prevention policies can be used to decrease firearm injury
